Spring is here! So they say!
Today, April 30, I have on a turtleneck, long jeans and a sweater. It's chilly!
But Saturday, April 28, it was a glorious Spring day, and also the first outdoor show of outdoor show season, The Wickenden Area Merchants Association Makers and Merchants Sidewalk Sale.
We love this show! First of all, Wickenden Street in Providence, RI, is a cool street with great restaurants and interesting shops. Second of all, it is really well organized! And we who do festivals and fairs really appreciate a well organized show! Makes life so much easier for everyone!
Thirdly, the people who come out are friendly, interested and supportive!
There are so many more reasons to love this event. We are looking ...
It's April 2nd, and it snowed about 3 inches today!
But I have Spring on the brain! I'm ready for hikes and generally being out doors, watching the grass turn green and all the flowers open.
In that spirit I am working with lots of greens and blues, like this chalcedony bracelet. I used 14/20 gold fill wire and chalcedony for this, with so many beads on knotted wire. All hand done of course!
Currently this particular style is available when you see me "live", but I can easily send to you per your request!
It has been awhile since I've sat down to this blog. To this web page in general. I have been without a computer, and though you can do just about anything on a smart phone these days, doesn't mean you want to, or that it's easy. But thanks to my brothers-in-law, I now have a laptop that I can use! (Yay! Thanks Dave and Mike!).
The goal is to translate this into more blogs and a true actual open store on this site!
Till then, please check out the stores that carry our work. There are a few new ones, and some no longer in our roster.
We are grateful to them all, and these small boutiques need your support! And, they are some of the best around, carrying great hand crafted works by artists all across the continent!
Also, keep ...
Where has the time gone? It's November already! Time to get ready for the bustling holidays ahead, but also time to slow down, look inward, and to be thankful!
We here at Violet Drury Designs have so much to be Thankful for. Especially our customers! We love meeting everyone at the shows, and we love that you choose us when you venture into the stores that carry our work- we know just how wonderful all the works in those stores are!
So Thank You to our customers! Enjoy the lovely fall!
I started 2016 off with a terrible virus that kept me from doing much work in the studio, till now, the last day of January.
It's been frustrating, to say the least, but all the time spent resting and healing turned out to be a time of incubation, too!
Lot's of new ideas and projects, including becoming a member of Made In Warren, an artist cooperative in Warren, RI. (http://madeinwarren.wix.com/store). I look forward to being among fellow creatives and artists as we forge a new store based on cooperation, collaboration, and creativity!
The first show of the year is coming up as well, Festival of the Arts at Newport Winterfest. (https://www.facebook.com/events/952644361482883/ ) It is...
Ahh summer! It is very hot here in New England, and there have been a few crazy summer thunderstorms, too. But mostly, when we aren't working, we are either by the pool or by the ocean.
Those colors of the water, and the constant desire to immerse have been the inspiration for the current collection of jewels. I've sought out aqua blue chalcedony, apatite, iolite, and labradorite, as those are the gemstones that evoke the color of the water and sky on these hot days, and seem to cool me off just looking at them.
Don't you feel cooler already?
Summer is here! We here at Violet Drury Designs have had a 4 day weekend, full of fun and family.
We kayaked on the lake, swam in the pool, sat by the backyard firepit, played outdoor games, went to the beach , to the farmstand, and, as one does in Rhode Island, we topped it all off with some clamcakes and chowder!
In the hot weather, with all that activity, we were once again reminded that Violet Drury Designs jewelry is the best! It looks great, is light weight, and uses lever-back earwires that keep earrings from falling out.
This 4th, we mainly wore iolite and coral jewels, earrings and bracelets, which we layered up for a colorful and sparkly addition to our outfits!
Well, here at Violet Drury Designs we are very creative thinkers, and very DIY, but not really too tech savvy, so the web page is a bit of a crawl and a challenge! But, as usual, we are up for a creative challenge! Afterall, "it doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you go."
So, slowly we go and slowly we add. Learning as we go. Doing it ourselves.
We hope you like it! Feed back is welcome!
Pearls have been the focus of my work in recent weeks, and interestingly enough, I have also been receiving a lot of requests for pearls. Just recently sent a shipment to the Green Phoenix 2 in Annapolis, Maryland. If you are in the area, go check in !
Well, because of this focus and interest, I thought I'd talk about the pearls I use in my work.
True pearls, whether cultivated or found in the wild, are the only gemstone that are produced by a living creature in nature. I use cultivated, or cultured pearls, mainly freshwater. Cultured pearls are "real" pearls. The main difference in them is that they are raised in farms, and have human intervention in creating them.
Freshwater pearls are usually formed in mussels in ...
It's hard to beleive Spring is just around the corner! But it is. According to the calendar, anyway!
We can't wait to get outside, and to not be wearing multiple layers here on the inside, except maybe layers of pearls!
Here at the studio, we are working on thoughts of Spring, starting with pearls for all those Spring weddings.
Pearls are so beautiful. The luster and warmth of them. The simple elegance. I love how they can evoke an image of conservatism, or propriety, but then you can layer them up and wear them with something risque, and they become classically naughty.

And Marilyn Monroe:
Funny how I chose two women on opposite sides of a love affair with the same man to ...
